If there is a video that perfectly encapsulates MTV in the 1980s, spewed out in a neon-colored vomit of dated video technology, it’s the clip for the Cars’ “You Might Think.” A song that sits rightfully beside the Police’s “I’ll Be Watching You” in the classic stalker-anthem department, “You Might Think” casts oval-faced Ric Ocasek as … “Drive” is a 1984 song by The Cars, and their biggest international hit.The third single from the band’s Heartbeat City album, it was written by Ric Ocasek, and produced by Mutt Lange and The Cars. Lead vocals were by Cars’ bassist Benjamin Orr. Pinkerton was a departure from the band’s first self titled debut album that had a more pop/rock sound due in no small part to it being produced by The Cars’ Ric Ocasek… Not The Cars. The NEW Cars. No Ric Ocasek. No Ben Orr. Just Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes and Todd Rundgren. Rough cut (nottonight010.mov) and final edit (not_tonight_final.mov). I kept expecting an 18” replica of Stonehenge to drop from the sky.
